De' Aruwa Yopo basket
This Shaman utensil basket is used by the De'Aruwa or Piaroa tribe.
The lidded basket serves for storing the yopo utensils. Prior to healing ceremonies, the shaman goes into trance by means of the yopo drug after inhaling the powder from the snuff tray into his nose via the Y-shaped snuff utensil.
The Piaroa are an indigenous American ethnic group living among the banks of the Orinoco and its tributaries in Venezuela, and in a few scattered locations elsewhere in Venezuela and in Colombia.
